What if health is
~ not something we can understand in isolation ~
an expression of the relationships that sustain life?
I have spent much of my life exploring this question, although it has taken many different forms.
As a child, I felt deeply connected to the natural world. I was fascinated by living beings, by the extraordinary complexity of life, and by the mysteries that seemed to exist just beyond what we could see or explain.

That curiosity eventually led me into medicine

My professional journey took me through several medical disciplines, including surgery and clinical pathology, as well as entrepreneurship, medical management, and organisational leadership. I became a founding board member of Pathology North (PN) helping establish a cooperative that brought together four healthcare organisations of the Northern three provinces of The Netherlands, to share expertise and strengthen diagnostic services.
As medical manager at Treant Healthcare Group, I was also the driving force behind the complete transition to digital pathology, with every pathologist adopting a new way of working. In 2020, Treant and the University Medical Center Groningen received Philips' 100% Digital Award.
These experiences taught me something important:

Meaningful transformation does not always require another solution.
Sometimes, it requires changing the conditions that allow new possibilities to emerge.
BEYOND THE HUMAN BODY
My fascination with health gradually expanded beyond conventional medicine.

Personal experiences led me to investigate consciousness, behaviour, deeply held beliefs, and the ways in which our environment influences who we become. I explored contemplative practices, hypnotherapy, integrative approaches to wellbeing, and altered states of consciousness.
Some of these experiences profoundly changed my perspective. They encouraged me to question assumptions I had previously taken for granted, while my scientific background continued to remind me of the importance of distinguishing personal experience from established evidence.

Over time, I began to recognise another dimension of health:

We are not separate from the environments in which we live.

The air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil that nourishes our food, the ecosystems surrounding us, and the relationships we cultivate all influence our wellbeing.
Human health and the health of the living Earth are deeply interconnected.
This understanding became an important turning point in my life. I no longer wanted to focus exclusively on helping individuals navigate their inner world. I also wanted to explore how the world we inhabit could better support life itself.
From a personal transformation
to a living relationship
Through LIV LUX HEALTH, I guide people on journeys of self-exploration,

inviting them:

to reconnect with their own nature,
question familiar patterns,
and discover new possibilities.

Nature is an essential part of this work.

Not simply as a beautiful background for personal development, but as a living environment with which we can develop a more attentive relationship. Yet my curiosity did not stop there.

I began to wonder:

What happens when we take the insights of personal transformation beyond the individual?
What if we begin to change not only ourselves,
but the relationships,
communities,
institutions,
and environments
that shape our lives?
And perhaps most importantly:

How can we create the conditions in which human life and the rest of the living world can flourish together?

These questions inspired SAGARA.
SAGARA
reweaving Humanity back into Nature
SAGARA is an emerging foundation and living initiative rooted in a simple but far-reaching intention:

To restore our sense of belonging within the natural world
and explore what it means to live in genuine reciprocity with life

We have become extraordinarily capable of managing, measuring, exploiting, and transforming our environment. Yet somewhere along the way, we may have lost something essential:
the ability to experience ourselves as participants in the living world
rather than separate from it.

SAGARA begins with a different orientation. Not with a plan to improve nature according to our own expectations, but with a willingness to develop a relationship with the life that is already present.

First relationship. Then intervention.

We want to explore ways of living, building, growing food, caring for land, and organizing communities that respect the intrinsic value of nature.

A forest does not need to justify its existence by being useful to us.
A river is more than a water resource.
The ocean is more than an ecosystem service.
And humanity is not an observer standing outside the web of life.

WE BELONG TO IT
FOREST SANCTUARY LIVING
Our first living exploration is taking shape in the Oosterduinen, a forest landscape in The Northern Netherlands.
Here, we are exploring how human living spaces might become part of the landscape rather than remain separate objects imposed upon it.

How might architecture return to the language of the land?
What if our homes supported the soil, water, vegetation, and wildlife around them?
And what would it mean to become stewards of a place rather than simply its owners?

SAGARA is investigating different approaches to ecological regeneration, long-term land stewardship, nature-inclusive living, and community participation. Our intention is not to create an isolated community with all the answers.

Instead, we envision a living place of exploration and connection that
can inspire people to begin where they already live ~
In their homes. Their gardens. Their neighbourhoods. Their landscapes.

Not a single destination, but the beginning of a growing network of living relationships.
Putting capital in service of life
Our questions also extend into the structures that shape society.

How do we organise ownership, responsibility, and financial resources in ways
that genuinely support the living world?

Can land be protected beyond the interests of its current owners?

Can people be recognised and supported for
caring for the ecosystems upon which we all depend?

And how can we finance ecological regeneration without
turning nature itself into another commodity?

One question has become particularly meaningful to me:

How can we put capital in service of life, without making life subservient to capital?
These are not questions to which I claim to have ready-made answers. They invite research, dialogue, experimentation, and collaboration across different disciplines and perspectives. I believe that:
meaningful change often begins when
we dare to question the assumptions upon which our existing systems are built.

And when we are willing to create new conditions for something different to emerge.

AN invitation

I am a physician by training, an explorer by nature, and someone who has always been drawn to opening pathways where new possibilities are waiting to be discovered.
I believe in the power of curiosity, compassionate inquiry, scientific understanding, and the wisdom that can emerge when we learn to listen more deeply.
I also believe that we have much to learn — from one another, from our own experiences, and from the living world of which we are a part.
My journey continues and perhaps that is the most beautiful part.
We do not need to know exactly where a new path will lead to begin walking it with curiosity, humility, and care.

WELCOME to the wild
